Advanced Auto Parts was started in 1932 by Arthur Taubman. He opened two stores in Virginia. At that time, the automotive industry was in it’s infancy and it was very hard for the average Joe to get car parts. Taking the car to the dealership was out of the question because it was too expensive (yes, even back in those days dealerships literally charged an arm and a leg to fix cars). Arthur had a great idea that would soon catch on. Over the next 75 years he opened thousands of stores. Today there are over 3800 stores in 40 different states. They employ over 55,000 workers across the country. They are now the second biggest automotive retailer in America. The Advanced Auto Parts website sits on a sub-domain called “shop.advancedautoparts.com”. When you go to the main URL, it redirects you to the subdomain. I’m not sure why in this day and age of modern html they would do that, but apparently they have their reasons. The site is clean and not cluttered. I was able to find what I was looking for (Ford alternator for a 2006 truck) within a matter of minutes. The checkout process was smooth and I was able to use a coupon code to save 15% on my order, as well as getting free shipping. There’s one thing I did not like about the website, and that was it had an “outdated” feel to it. Maybe this is because I have been designing and building websites for the past 10 years and I consider myself to be an internet nerd. Don’t get me wrong, the site design is not bad by any stretch….it’s just that when we compare the site to other Fortune 500 companies, it does look a tad bit “outdated”. No worries, that’s just a pet peeve from an internet geek like myself. The average person probably won’t notice, nor will they care….and rightfully so! When compared to Pep Boys and Auto Zone, I personally found the prices to be very competitive. I don’t live near a PepBoys or AutoZone so I really can’t make any other comparison statements other than the 25 items that I looked at, all 3 stores seemed to have the same price. I have been to Autozone when I was in California once and it was a decent store…a bit small for my liking, but I found what I was looking for.

I have a national Campervan Business with a fleet of Toyota Hiaces. I had one do a Head Gasket, I organised for Rolands to do the job plus also supply one of there after market heads with it. This was done and i received the bill which was Incredible to say the least, $1000 dollars more than what the going rate is. The Vehicle then proceeded to Adelaide for the next 4 weeks, where one of our offices inspected it as it was running really rough. We had the vehicle inspected by our trusty mechanic who we have used for over 12 months and trust, the vehicle was running really rough and like it had dropped a cylinder, the mechanic advised that he will need to pull the head off. so we said fine and we made Roland Imports aware of this,after removing the Head and inspecting it was found that the After Market head supplied From Roland Imports was of a poor design, the cam follower buckets where of a bad design and the shims where lifting and catching, there for we needed to change these and reassemble the head Costing another $1200. I have since asked rolands to pay for this and all they say is its not there problem!!They where aware, they could have called and followed this matter up. but that was all to hard as well. So if you wanna get ripped of with a company who over charge and sell dodgy parts that dont even last 4 weeks call Roland Imports.CROOKS!! Be aware stay away.Since then we have had to throw this inferior part away and buy a secondhand head, we have found that all the parts we where supplied did not get 12 months out of them. the Final straw was the last head lasting 4 weeks lol and they say it our problem. BEWARE THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!!!!!!!!
